Prepare to lead effectively when passenger safety, communication, human behaviour and emergency coordination come together under pressure.

Marine Pro Academy’s STCW Crisis Management and Human Behavior for Passenger Ships course is designed for passenger-ship personnel with responsibilities for emergency response, crisis coordination and passenger safety.

The programme is aligned with STCW Regulation V/2, Section A-V/2 and Table A-V/2-2 and is delivered through Marine Pro Academy’s modern maritime e-learning platform.

The course develops the practical knowledge required to support an organised and controlled response during passenger-ship emergencies, with emphasis on leadership, communication, passenger behaviour, resource management and coordination between personnel carrying emergency responsibilities.

What You Will Develop

Learners develop competence and awareness in areas such as:

passenger-ship crisis preparedness
emergency organisation and command structure
leadership and decision-making under pressure
management of human behaviour during emergencies
passenger reactions in stressful situations
communication with passengers and crew
emergency communication and information flow
management of vulnerable passengers
passenger movement and crowd behaviour
delegation of duties and responsibilities
coordination and optimisation of available resources
maintaining control during developing emergency situations
emergency drills and preparedness
debriefing and corrective action
recovery following emergency situations
resilience and lessons learned

The course is designed to help learners understand how leadership, communication and human behaviour can directly influence the effectiveness of an emergency response.

Passenger Behaviour and Crisis Leadership

Passenger-ship emergencies can create rapidly changing situations where information may be incomplete, people may react unpredictably and several operational priorities must be managed at the same time.

The course therefore develops awareness of how passengers may respond to stress, uncertainty and perceived danger, and how effective leadership and communication can help maintain order and support safe decision-making.

Learners consider the importance of:

giving clear and timely instructions
maintaining authority and calm
recognising different passenger reactions
supporting passengers requiring additional assistance
coordinating crew responsibilities
managing available resources effectively
maintaining communication as conditions change

The emphasis is on practical emergency leadership rather than theory alone.

Practical Passenger-Ship Scenarios

The programme incorporates realistic passenger-ship situations and decision-making examples designed to connect the STCW competence requirements with real operational conditions.

Learners are encouraged to consider:

what information is available
what must be communicated
who should take responsibility
how tasks should be prioritised
how passenger behaviour may influence the response
how resources can be allocated effectively
when a developing situation requires escalation or additional support

Course content is presented publicly in summary form. Detailed scenarios, learning activities, assessment architecture and internal lesson sequences remain within the Marine Pro Academy LMS.

Modern Interactive E-Learning

The course is delivered through the Marine Pro Academy Learning Hub, providing a modern and interactive online learning experience specifically designed for maritime professionals.

Learners benefit from:

professionally structured digital lessons
maritime visuals and illustrations
interactive scenarios
decision-making exercises
realistic passenger-ship examples
knowledge checks throughout the programme
final assessment
progress tracking
mobile, tablet and desktop access
self-paced learning
access to an integrated AI Tutor

The AI Tutor can support learners by explaining course concepts, clarifying terminology and helping learners understand scenario-based content in clear and practical maritime language.

The AI Tutor supports the learning process but does not replace vessel-specific procedures, company instructions, the Safety Management System or applicable regulatory requirements.
